There are various techniques to partially fill in or fully reconstruct eyebrows. These techniques include microblading, nano brows, ombré brows, and combination brows.
Microblading is done using a manual hand tool with a grouping of tiny needles used to apply pigment into the skin by means of incision, mimicking the appearance of hair strokes. This technique is suitable for dry, youthful skin.
Nano brows is a technique similar to Microblading, however a rotary tattoo machine is used to create hair strokes by poking pigment into the skin. This technique is suitable for all skin types because of how gentle the application is.
Ombré brows, also known as powder brows, is done using a rotary tattoo machine to create soft pixelated shading through out the eyebrows and gradually less pigment is applied towards the front. This is suitable for all skin types and is the easiest to maintain over time.
Combination brows is taking both nano and ombré techniques to create spare hair strokes in the front of the eyebrows that’s taper into soft pixelated shading to fill in the remainder of the eyebrows. This is suitable for all skin types.
When it comes to cosmetic tattooing of the eyebrows, the technique best for you is determined on your skin type and skin undertones.
Most clients are not suitable for Microblading as the nature of how the pigment is being implemented into the skin can be too harsh for healing. However, if you are looking for your eyebrows to have the appearance of hair strokes, Nano brows is a premium version that’s highly efficient and yields a greater result over time.
Ombré and combination brows are a fantastic option for clients who are used to filling in their eyebrows with makeup can achieve a low maintenance regimen with this technique.
Cosmetic tattooing of any kind is considered “semi permanent” in that the pigment will gently fade over time, but not entirely. If you are looking to maintain the saturation of the pigment, touch ups are recommended every 1-3 years, sometimes longer. What determines the longevity of the pigment is based on the technique used, skin types lifestyle, immediate & long term aftercare, medications you are on, etc.
Cosmetic tattooing is LOW maintenance, not no maintenance. If you find yourself filling in your eyebrows with makeup, this does not mean you are due for a touch up. Reapplication of pigment too soon can lead to uneven fading and make the pigment look muddy overtime. The longer you go between touch ups, the better!
lthough some discomfort is expected with tattooing of all kinds, every effort is made to ensure that pain is minimized. A 5% topical lidocaine is applied after the first few minutes of tattooing that will activate in 90 seconds on broken skin and will be applied through out the procedure if needed.
Please be aware that having this service done during your menstrual cycle may increase discomfort during the procedure.
If you are a frequent smoker, the topical lidocaine will not last long.

Immediately after the procedure, the tattooed area will appear dark and more sharply defined. This will happen for the first few days following the first visit.
Swelling and redness is minimal on most clients and will typically disappear within 24-48 hours.
The complete healing process takes about 4-6 weeks, at which time the true color of the tattoo is evident. During this process, your tattoo will soften and lighten. If you think too much color has been lost be patient as your skin is still regenerating and naturally exfoliating.
Pigment will resurface as the healing skin regenerates. Results are visible after 4 weeks.
Exposure to the sun over time may cause discoloration and fading of the pigment. Once completely healed, you may apply sunscreen on the treated area. Rinse and dry area if comes into contact with chlorine.
Glycolic acid, microdermabrasion, and chemical face peel products must be kept away from the tattooed area as continued use may lighten the pigment. If you are having laser resurfacing or laser hair removal after your tattoo has healed, please inform the laser technician so the tattooed area can be avoided. Continue at your own discretion. Laser procedures may darken, lighten, or discolor the tattooed area.
Once the treated area is completely healed, any changes or additions that need to be made can be done at your follow up visit no sooner than 8 weeks following. The majority of our clients’ cosmetic tattoos stay true to color and lighten naturally over time. There are some cases, however, where colors may fade to different tones according to the individual’s response to the pigments (like lifestyle, medications used and iron deficiencies). Many factors affect these changes. At your next appointment, we will re-analyze how your body has responded to the initial color. Your eyebrow tattoo will eventually look softer and have more of a “powdered” look. This happens with all clients as the skin ages.
To maintain your cosmetic tattoo, a refresher appointment is suggested every 1 to 3 years. Results vary with each client.
There are no implied or written guarantees if you do not take proper care of your cosmetic tattoo. This is a LOW maintenance service and proper aftercare should be practiced.
Healed results will vary with each individual client. We (myself and Hudson Valley Tattoo Company) have no control over what occurs during the healing process. Absolutely NO guarantee will be made and additional sessions may be required to obtain optimal results. Additional charges will apply.
If you have had your eyebrows previously tattooed and are interested in a cover-up/re-work, you MUST email a clear photo PRIOR to booking your appointment. We cannot guarantee results for cases such as these and we must approve that your existing results are workable. In some cases where the previous work is too dark, dense, discolored, or large, tattoo removal will be highly recommended before we begin the cover-up/re-work. Previously tattooed areas as well as cover-ups will usually require additional appointments for best results and will be charged accordingly.
Although we give our best efforts to provide you with quality service, many factors can result in a less than desired outcome as each client will heal differently. Please refer to the FAQ section to see if the services we offer may be beneficial to you.
